- Make your menu then you shopping list- I try to make a menu up for one month then I am always scanning the deals for that month and I know what I need.
- When you plan your menu plan for leftovers- we use leftovers or recreate them. This tip is a big budget stretcher!
- Shop you cupboards and freezer- When times are tight take an inventory of you own supplies. I was surprised the foods I had in the freezer. Things I would have bought more if I didn't know I had them. I took my clipboard and inventoried. Try it you may be surprised all the food right under your nose.
- Learn your stores policies- Price matching, can you stack coupons, internet coupons or do they double coupons.
- Make time to shop and plan- I spend more when I am in a hurry I impulse shop.
- Use cash- When times are tight I shop with cash they I am less likely to go over my budget. It is embarrassing to go over so I rarely do.
- Do NOT buy non-food items at the grocery store- They are typically more unless you have a great coupon. example: shampoo, toilet paper, deodorant and laundry soap buy at the dollar store or a store like Kmart and find better prices.
- Read your store flyers and find the best deals- I live in an area where I have 6 different grocery store not far from home. If I find a great deal and the store is in my path going somewhere I stop buy the deal and leave. I don't feel I am running all over town and get some great deals.
- Stockpile- when you find a great deal. I am not taking hoarding just getting things at a great price that you will use in the future. If you receive things for free that you can't use it is always great to donate.
- My best money stretching tip- Always ask yourself Do I need it or do I want it? Many times when I ask myself this question I leave the store with the money still in my pocket, Making my money stretch and last longer.
