How to make your money stretch?

Money_stretch

Wouldn't it be nice if we could stretch our money like this!

For me it isn't just saving with coupons it is changing how we do things. Here is a list of a few simple things that can help our money stretch.
  1. Make your menu then you shopping list- I try to make a menu up for one month then I am always scanning the deals for that month and I know what I need.
  2. When you plan your menu plan for leftovers- we use leftovers  or recreate them. This tip is a big budget stretcher!
  3. Shop you cupboards and freezer- When times are tight take an inventory of you own supplies. I was surprised the foods I had in the freezer. Things I would have bought more if I didn't know I had them. I took my clipboard and inventoried. Try it you may be surprised all the food right under your nose.
  4. Learn your stores policies- Price matching, can you stack coupons, internet coupons or do they double coupons.
  5. Make time to shop and plan- I spend more when I am in a hurry I impulse shop.
  6. Use cash- When times are tight I shop with cash they I am less likely to go over my budget. It is embarrassing to go over so I rarely do.
  7. Do NOT buy non-food items at the grocery store- They are typically more unless you have a great coupon. example: shampoo, toilet paper, deodorant and laundry soap buy at the dollar store or a store like Kmart and find better prices.
  8.  Read your store flyers and find the best deals- I live in an area where I have 6 different grocery store not far from home. If I find a great deal and the store is in my path going somewhere I stop buy the deal and leave. I don't feel I am running all over town and get some great deals.
  9. Stockpile- when you find a great deal. I am not taking hoarding just getting things at a great price that you will use in the future. If you receive things for free that you can't use it is always great to donate.
  10. My best money stretching tip- Always ask yourself Do I need it or do I want it? Many times when I ask myself this question I leave the store with the money still in my pocket, Making my money stretch and last longer.
How do you make your money stretch? Have a blessed day

Coupons are free money!

Good Morning!  If you would have asked me last year if I used coupons. I would have said No, too much trouble and they are a pain! This year in January after my husband was out of work I decided to re-think the whole idea. I am not the expert Jenny is yet, but I am working on it.

Coupons are work, but when you see the amount at the register and the total go down with each beep of a coupon something happens you get hooked! Now I can't just stop at the store without my binder. I don't always find just because I have a coupon it is the best deal. Always look at the whole shelf sometimes you may find a better deal and save you money.

Where to find those coupons?

  • The Sunday paper- ask you family, friends or co workers if they use they coupons. I get three complete sets of coupons each week. which adds to my savings.
  • Internet coupons- Not every store will take them but if you have the double bar code they usually work. You can print off the computer but it is illegal to make copies.
  • Peelies- are the peel away coupons you find on a product.
  • Tearpads- Are the coupon note pads at the store that you can find coupons.
  • Blinkies- These are the ones my boys love "Here mom got you some coupons!" These are setup by the product with coupons. sometimes they have a blinking little light or they are red.
  • All you Magazine and other magazines have coupons if you just look.
  • Free samples usually come with a coupon.
  • Store and product websites offer coupons and free samples.
  • Coupons come in the mail. Valpak the blue envelope.
  • Don't forget your Catalina coupon- this is the receipt you receive when you check out. Sometimes they are for money off of your next purchase or a coupon for a product.

If you have a coupon finding tip let us know.

 Have a great day, Candy

Looking for Contributors

Hello nwohiocoupon readers,

Recently, many of you wrote in to express your appreciation of the site.  Thank you so much for all your encouragement!  Unfortunately, my new schedule has made it very difficult for me to post on a regular basis.  I would however love to see the site continue.  If you have any interest in writing one or two posts a week please know I would love the contribution.

Or, if you are an aspiring couponer and would like to tackle a bigger project I am willing to turn over the site in its entirety to anyone who would be willing.

Until then, I will post as time allows though it may be a bit random.  Thanks again and happy savings.
